Meet Judge Bob Gippin

Bob GippinBefore he was appointed to the Summit County Common Pleas Court by Governor Ted Strickland in April 2008, Judge Gippin spent a successful thirty-five year legal career as a member of the firms of Goldman and Rosen from 2003-2008; Thompson Hine, LLP, in Cleveland from 2000-2003; and Buckingham, Doolittle and Burroughs Co., LPA, in Akron from 1975-2000. He also served as a prosecutor for the Cuyahoga Falls Municipal Court.

Judge Gippin is a 1965 graduate of Buchtel High School and received his bachelor’s degree from Dartmouth College in 1969 and his law degree from Harvard University in 1973. Following graduation, he worked as a special assistant to the director of the Ohio Department of Commerce and as the secretary of the Ohio State Real Estate Commission. He was a Summit County Council member from 1981-1984 and served as president for three years.

Judge Gippin has been an active member of the Akron Bar Association and has served as chair of the Federal Courts Committee and a member of the Common Pleas and Court of Appeals Committee and the Certified Grievance Committee. He has also been a member of the Summit County Alcohol, Drug Addiction and Mental Health Services Board, a trustee for the Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio and a member of the board of Project Learn of Summit County.

Judge Gippin lives in west Akron with his wife, Susan, and their daughter Alana, who is a 2008 graduate of Firestone High School. Judge Gippin's daughters Sarah and Rebecca live in New York City; his son, Josh, and daughter-in-law, Shane, live in west Akron and are expecting their first child in September.
